FIRST  NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY TEST WITH THE 500MM F4 BY CANON

A short trip outside of Sioux Falls, South Dakota tonight gave me a chance to take a few test shots with the Canon F4 L series lens. While I tested the lens from F4 all the way through F10 on tonight’s cooperative birds, I found that anywhere between 5.6 and 9 was simply incredible imagery. With a beautiful bokeh in the background and wonderfully sharp subjects. F5.6 did take a bit of extra shooting to ensure the eye was the clear focus point due to the narrow depth of field so I gradually stopped down to around F8 comfortably. It is clearly worth dealing with the hefty 9lbs of the lens for the quality of the bird photos that it produces.
